Description: The UCATS Regional Bicycle Network is comprised of bicycle facilities that fill in gaps in existing bicycle networks. Many of the facilities are proposed on streets with less traffic and slower speeds than parallel streets. These facilities appeal to people who may be less comfortable biking on high-speed, multi-lane streets. All infrastructure proposed as part of the UCATS Regional Bicycle Network meets one or both of the Tier One criteria by contributing to a regional network of bicycle facilities, and/or enhancing access to transit. Some routes and infrastructure proposed as part of the Regional Bicycle Network project areas also meet the Tier Two criteria for UCATS projects by helping cyclists cross major barriers, linking locally planned facilities, connecting people to economic centers, and/or scoring high on the latent demand model. Routes and infrastructure that met the Tier One and Tier Two criteria became higher-priority project areas, known as the “Top 25.”
Description: This shapefile includes existing bicycle facilities for Weber, Davis, Salt Lake, and Utah Counties. This file consolidates GIS files from several different sources, including WFRC, MAG, Salt Lake County, UDOT, AGRC, and Salt Lake City. Fehr & Peers aligned all features in a consolidated file with a geographic coordinate reference system based on North American Datum of 1983 (NAD 83) and a projection using Universal Transverse Mercator Zone 12 North (UTM Zone 12N). The project team conducted field reviews of all major bike facilities identified as “existing” in the source files. The most efficient way to verify the bike routes in the GIS files was to use aerial imagery provided by AGRC, Google Earth/Maps or Bing Maps. The project team also made field visits when facilities were not visible on the aerial imagery, or if shared lane markings and signage were not visible from aerials. The project team acknowledges the challenge of documenting existing bicycle facilities over a large geographic area with numerous independent cities. New bicycle facilities are continually being added to the network, and it is assumed that this file will require regular updates to remain current.
Description: Last Update: 09/06/2022This trails map layer represents off-road recreational trail features and important road connections that augment Utah’s recreational trail network. This map layer features many of Utah’s recreational trails but is not yet complete. Currently, the trails information primary depicts trails used by hiking and mountain biker users. It began with map data purchased from a private entity (Orbital View, Inc), for which full rights were purchased by the GOED Office of Outdoor Recreation in July 2014. Since the original purchase, subsequent substantive updates have included: 2014 Revisions from National Park service; 2015 additions from Emery County; June 2016 additions from Cache County US Forest Service Geodata Hub (all forests except Sawtooth in NW Box Elder County), and Mountainland Association of Governments (Utah and Wasatch counties). Significant updates were made in 2018 as part of the multimodal project. These included pathways and off-road bike trails in the project area. Additional trails can be submitted to Utah UGRC for inclusion in this map layer.Note: Presently, the planned approach for on street bicycle lanes and routes is to incorporate them in the the statewide roads GIS layer using left and right side attributes. On street bike infrastructure is not expected to be represented in this map layer.More information about this layer can be found here: https://gis.utah.gov/data/recreation/trails/
