Description: This shapefile includes existing bicycle facilities for Weber, Davis, Salt Lake, and Utah Counties. This file consolidates GIS files from several different sources, including WFRC, MAG, Salt Lake County, UDOT, AGRC, and Salt Lake City. Fehr & Peers aligned all features in a consolidated file with a geographic coordinate reference system based on North American Datum of 1983 (NAD 83) and a projection using Universal Transverse Mercator Zone 12 North (UTM Zone 12N). The project team conducted field reviews of all major bike facilities identified as “existing” in the source files. The most efficient way to verify the bike routes in the GIS files was to use aerial imagery provided by AGRC, Google Earth/Maps or Bing Maps. The project team also made field visits when facilities were not visible on the aerial imagery, or if shared lane markings and signage were not visible from aerials. The project team acknowledges the challenge of documenting existing bicycle facilities over a large geographic area with numerous independent cities. New bicycle facilities are continually being added to the network, and it is assumed that this file will require regular updates to remain current.
